Hi FitFluential friends!
I’m Nikki and I blog over at My Life My Way. A little about me? Daughter, Sister, Momma to 2 fur babies, longshoreman by day a group fitness instructor by night. I blog about my continuing battle to keep my weight off and everything else that comes to mind. You can also find me on Twitter and Instagram.
Today I am here to talk about my body and lifestyle transformation! Where do I start? The beginning seems like a legit place no? Well if I started at the beginning we would be here FOREVER so let’s fast forward to 2001.
2001 was my senior year of high school. I am not gonna beat around the bush, I am gonna put it out there. I was fat. Not just fat but F.A.T as in 280 pounds. Photographic evidence?
Anyway I graduated high school and started out on life. I was disgusted with the way I looked and decided that I needed to do something about it. Fast forward to 2003 and I started my big girl job on the waterfront. Let me just tell you if you think high school kids are cruel just wait til the real world sets in. I was the butt of jokes nonstop. I hated it!
I started to go to the mall on my breaks from work and walk laps around. I would start off with just one lap because that was all I had time for. From there I slowly started to add in more and more laps. I started to see a difference in my weight. I was elated!
Mom and I in 2004.
I thought I was doing everything right and I started to slack. Boy was that a mistake. The weight crept back on. I was devastated!
In 2005 my mom and I went to Mexico and as much fun as I had I was mortified when I got home and looked at the pictures! I was back up to 280 pounds.
I was not proud at all. All my hard work had gone right down the drain! I was determined though! Off I set doing laps and laps at the mall. I knew if it worked once it HAD to work again right?

Sure enough I started to see the weight come off and I was happy again. That is until I hit a wall and stopped losing weight. What was I supposed to do now? I did what anyone would: googled “what do I do to lose weight after I hit the wall?” I changed my eating habits.
I used to eat HORRIDLY! I would eat everything and anything under the sun WHENEVER I wanted. I would eat McDonald’s, Wendy’s, Burger King, pizza, you name it. The worse it was for you the more of it I ate! Cookies, ice cream, chips, junk junk and more junk!
I started by making small changes as not to shock my body. I swapped out white bread for whole wheat. Burgers for grilled chicken or turkey. Ya know the smart stuff that we are supposed to eat. Well let me tell you that kicked my body into high gear and I started to see the weight come off again!
Today I am proud to put it out there that I am now down to 150 pounds! I busted my butt with good old diet and exercise and I am beyond proud of where I am today!
My typical week now consists of me working out 5 to 6 days a week plus teaching 1 to 3 classes a week. I do cardio and weight training and bust my behind! I love the way a good work out makes me feel! I have to seriously FORCE myself to take a rest day and even on my rest days I still tend to go for a nice walk. My diet consists of simple clean eating.
I have recently added supplements into my diet and exercise routine and I am loving my results! I can not stress enough how important it is for you to get out and move! Do it for yourself. Believe me it is the best thing you can do for yourself!
One thing that I have kept in the back of my mind since I have lost all the weight is that it is not in fact a DIET it is a WAY OF LIFE. You need to stop thinking that you are on a diet because if you think that way you will eventually “fall off the wagon” and all your hard work will go out the window. That was my mistake when I first started to lose weight.

It really is a way of life not a temporary thing. It is amazing how after a while of eating a certian way it just becomes natural and you won’t want to go back to your old ways. Besides that if you do you will feel like crap because your body will not like that you are putting crud back into it.
I really hope that my story will inspire at least one person to get off their behind and MOVE! It’s for your own health! It is a mindset too. Think of it like this….

This is my sassy self presently.
I make sure to eat a rainbow of colors!
And if I want a treat I make a healthy version of it. Like ice cream for instance? I freeze a banana and throw it in the food processor ’til it’s creamy and top it with some non-fat cool whip! DELISH!
Believe me if I can do it YOU can do it!
What do you do to keep yourself active?
What kinds of “treats” do you give yourself?
What is your favorite workout?
What are your weight loss goals and struggles?
Do you have a fitness or health transformation story?
Whether it’s a weight loss journey, recovery from an injury or simply a change in mindset, we’d love to share it. You don’t need to be an Ambassador or even a blogger, just a member of the FitFluential community (you can sign up as an Enthusiast here).
Email your transformation narrative along with photos and a short bio to email@example.com for consideration.
